School attendance app
An online register, marked on the teacher's phone.
The teacher marks the class between lessons. The office reads the same register in the console, the parent sees it in the app, and it adds up to a term without anyone counting ticks.
In class
A tap for present, a tap for absent.
The teacher opens a class and marks each child with a tick or a cross. The phone does not need a signal: a mark is saved on the handset first and sent when it connects, and the Sync tab says what is still waiting.

In the office
The office reads the same register.
The console shows the class register for any day and session, and marks present, absent, late or excused. The dashboard gives the day's attendance across the classes that reported, and says plainly when no register was taken instead of showing a zero.

The rules
What the register will not let slip.
- Unmarked means absent, once the day is over
- Each school day has a cut-off. After it, a child nobody marked is recorded absent, so a register that was never taken shows up instead of hiding.
- Closed days stay empty
- On a day the school is closed, nobody is recorded absent.
- Nothing is erased
- A correction is a new mark on top of the old one. A late mark from an offline phone that disagrees with a newer one waits for the head to decide.
- Who is away
- Today's absent children, longest away first, with the number to ring and what the family said. The teacher is asked why a child is away when marking them absent.
- The gate counts
- Where the school scans children in at the gate, a morning drop-off is the first mark of the day, for the teacher to confirm.
- Report cards count real marks
- A term's attendance on a report card is worked out only over days a person actually marked.
